Mindset  |  Adapting Life Together

Adapting Life Together (ALT): This unique service is an opportunity to build independence, improve self-esteem and learn. Participants must apply to this program and each session is three months. Clients and their families set goals.  Accomplishments are recognized in mini and major victories.

ALT Activities:
•    The Body — a personal trainer teaches fitness to meet everyone's needs.
•    Yoga — an instructor teaches stretching and relaxation.
•    Culinary Arts — teaching menu planning, shopping on a budget, food preparation, and kitchen safety.

•    Allows the client to remain living at home, thereby retaining independence, security, and comfort, which enhances their quality of life. Depression and stress for the client and caregiver is eased or eliminated with this approach.
•    Provides a therapeutic, compassionate, protected environment for the client. An individualized care plan is created for each client. The goal is to help each client "graduate" back into society.
•    Clients receive personal supervision to help with activities of daily living such as bathroom use, eating and medication management.
•    Clients are granted the same (or higher) level of compassion and care as received in the home.
•    Clients benefit from socialization, cognitive stimulation and physical exercise. We help our clients have as many "good" moments as possible.
•    Transportation may be provided to and from the program for those outside the Dial-A-Ride area.

Culinary Arts and Kitchen Safety: The culinary art classes teach participants proper nutrition, meal prep, kitchen safety, budgeting, use of adaptive equipment, meal planning, shopping, cooking, safety, table setting, serving and clean up.  The classes are three to four hours long, are completely hands-on, and feature foods that the participants love to prepare and eat.  Our goal is to provide participants with engaging, open and broad-based learning experience for the individuals need.

Physical Well-being: Physical fitness is to the human body what fine-tuning is to an engine. It enables us to perform up to our potential. Fitness can be described as a condition that helps us look, feel and do our best.     Physical fitness involves the performance of the heart and lungs, and the muscles of the body.  And, since what we do with our bodies also affects what we can do with our minds, fitness influences to some degree qualities such as mental alertness and emotional stability.  Mindset has partnered with The Body and Fort Collins Athletic Center in programs that maximize the health and well being of our participants to help them be productive in their daily tasks.
