Dear Mindset Staff -

Thank you for the opportunity to work with the Mindset group this past Fall semester. It is invaluable experience helping me improve my music therapy skills and learn more about myself as a clinician.  The group brought so much great energy & joy to my week!  I saw a participant increase his range of motion in his arms & legs and I saw another member of the group become more engaged and produce more vocalizations throughout our time together. I also saw their ability to make decisions improve.  The group as a whole showed improvement in creating positive social interactions with one another.  The experience I gained from working with the group at Mindset will be one I remember forever.  I learned a lot from each member of the group and had a great time doing it!  The staff at Mindset was really supportive and helpful which added to the positive experience.  Thank you for the opportunity.  I hope to see you all in the near future!

Ask any new parent what priority day care plays in their life, and I'm sure it would be a high priority. We value being able to trust and depend on the people that we would entrust to care for our children. The same is true for our parents.

Physical Fitness: Clients utilize the full sized, on site gymnasium by playing basketball, walking, yoga and various exercises. Off site exercise includes bowling, billiards, nature walks, and gardening duties.

Mental/Cognitive: Offers a balance of recreational and educational programs.
Cognitive training consists of a variety of exercises designed to help improve functioning in areas such as sustaining attention, memory, thinking before acting, visual and auditory processing, listening and reading. The principle behind cognitive training is to help improve the "core" abilities and self-control necessary before an individual can function successfully academically.  Goals and objectives are established with each individual we serve and are directed towards the achievement of lasting outcomes.  The cooking class challenges the clients  as they plan, shop, and prepare the meal.  In addition, brain stimulation is attained through music, singing, designing a calendar, arts and crafts, reading, and writing, along with discussing past and current events. There are painting/drawing classes, a quilting corner, photography club, and nature discoveries.

Cultural: Clients go on outings to libraries, museums, movies, sporting events, local events and attractions.

Mindset Benefits:
•    Allows the client to remain living at home; retaining independence, security, and comfort,     which enhances their quality of life. Depression and stress for the client and caregiver is eased or eliminated.
•    Provides a therapeutic, compassionate, protected environment for the client. An individualized care plan is created for each client. The goal is to help the client “graduate” back into society.
•    Clients receive personal supervision to help with activities of daily living such as bathroom use,
•    Eating and medication management.
•    Clients are granted the same (or higher level) of compassion and care as received in the home.
•    Participants benefit from socialization, cognitive stimulation and physical exercise. Clients are helped to obtain as many “good” moments as possible.
•    Clients have the advantage of utilizing sites that have universal accessibility, all locations used (including outings) are totally handicap accessible.
•    Transportation may be provided to and from the program for those outside the Dial-A-Ride area.
